ICD drainage system in Ongole is also known as intercostal drainage tube or chest tube. This tube helps to drain the fluid, air, or blood surrounding the lungs known as pleural space.

The Chest Tube is required when a patient has,

  1. Collapsed lungs
  2. Lung Infection
  3. Bleeding around lungs
  4. Fluid built up due to medical conditions like cancer, pneumonia
  5. Breath difficulty due to the build-up of fluid or air
  6. Surgeries like lung, heart, or esophageal.

Preparation - An area from the armpit towards the abdomen inline to the nipples on the patient's body side is prepared by disinfecting it.

Anesthesia - In some surgeries patient will be given local anesthesia into the skin or vein. But in major surgeries of the lung and heart, general anesthesia is given to the patient.

Incision - At the upper part of the rib incision of ¼ to 1 ½ inchs is made.

Insertion - After the incision surgeon will open up the space and then insert the tube of the required size in it.

Drainage - The tube is then attached to a one-way drainage system to only drain outward.
